Fostering campus connections through personalized delivery solutions.

STARSHIP

PROBLEM

Bridging Gaps in Campus Connectivity

Students often need to send or receive personal items across campus but face challenges due to mismatched schedules, time constraints, or other barriers like illness.

CONTEXT

From Functional Robots to Human-Centered Design

Current Starship robots are designed for food delivery, offering functional but impersonal services. This leaves a gap for a more human-centered solution that fosters meaningful connections while being practical and accessible for students from various cultural backgrounds.

RATIONALE

Why It Matters: Combining Convenience with Emotional Impact

Our design bridges the gap between convenience and connection by transforming Starship into more than just a delivery robot. It serves as a tool for interpersonal engagement, meeting diverse user needs while remaining easy and practical to use.

SOLUTION

Transforming Deliveries into Moments of Connection

We redesigned the Starship robot to enable item delivery between individuals while prioritizing personal interaction. Key features include:

Real-time video or audio chats to create meaningful engagement.

Personalized messages to make deliveries feel special.

Safety enhancements, like improved nighttime visibility, to ensure secure usage.

This new approach allows users to send items such as gifts, medicine, or forgotten belongings while fostering emotional connections.
